This, that and life!

Sad :(

Our horse, Cherry

This is a photo I took of Cherry last summer and just couldn’t get her to look at me! Sadly Cherry died on Friday. She was almost 34 years old and had come through the cold spell we have just had. Cherry had lost quite a bit of condition due to old age and we were feeding her concentrates, carrots, bread and apples four times a day. The vet had told us that she wasn’t in pain and that we weren’t being cruel to keep her going as she was still very aware and interested in what was going around her – a very curious horse. Rod went out as usual Friday morning to give her one of her feeds and found her down on the ground, she whinnied to him but just couldn’t get up, I went out to see if we could persuade up onto her hooves but we got the impression she was tired and weak. She hadn’t been down long. We immediately telephoned the vet who came out within the hour and administered the necessary injection, less than a minute later she was no more. Luckily both our daughters, who have known Cherry for 22 of their 24 years, were both visiting and were able to say their farewells to her. Cherry is now buried in our garden by the apple trees and will be missed. We keep expecting to hear her whinny wondering where her apples are. Why do we let these animals get under our skins?

Christmas Wish Lists

In my last post I wrote about our daughter’s enterprise with the children’sย craft club. Here is a photo of the Christmas Wish Lists that the children made a week or two ago – these are the ones our grand-daughter, Kim, made in the craft club and are now pinned up at home with her wishes written in!

The top one is a Christmas Tree – just in case you hadn’t guessed!! – the shape was attached to a piece of card and the children had to decorate the shape. In this case Kim used squares of green paper and then added die cut Christmassy shapes to represent decorations.

I think the second one needs no introduction from me ๐Ÿ™‚
There was a third one with a Santa shape for the children to decorate as they saw fit.
Last weekย  all the school children put on their Christmas play. There are several nasty flu type bugs going around the school and the headmaster wondered if the play would be able to go ahead as there were 38 children and 3 teachers absent but all the children wanted to do the play. So it went on and they did a magnificent show considering how poorly some of them were feeling.
Hoar Frost

This, believe it or not, is notย snow but hoar-frost. It turned everything white for a day or two before the temperatures finally rose and melted it all away. With the sun just catching the trees it all looked very pretty.

We have had milder weather for the last few days but it seems the weather is going to turn nasty again before the end of next week – sigh! I would love it to continue mild until around March and then we could have spring ๐Ÿ™‚ Now there is a big wish.
Hope you are all caught up with your Christmas preparations. All my handmade cards are posted, parcels that need posting have been posted and all presents are now wrapped. Just leaves a few mass-producedย cards to be written (for all those people who do not appreciate hand-made!!) ย and posted and I’m almost there!!
Thanks for stopping by

  1. Hi Lynn,
I am so sad for you, Rod and Family at the loss of your beloved Cherry. I will be praying for you .
The hoar frost photo is beautiful Looks like a winter wonderland.
We have school cancelled tomorrow due to blowing snow and below Zero wind chills. This weather is bizzare BRRRR .
Your Kims artwork is lovely She is quite an artist Must run in the family ๐Ÿ™‚
We are getting along with my christmas stuff but I am way behind so I forsee a busier week ahead. I am working on a little something for you and Leslie and hopefully I get it all finished and mailed out soon. We had a rough night with the kids last night Sierra got sick all over my bed and I think Levi is just going through a VERY clingy stage I can’t get out of his sight or he’s into a real tizzy. He is walking all over like a little frankenstein monster and so far don’t seem to interested in the Christmas tree or decorations. For this I am Thankful ๐Ÿ™‚
Take care My friend You are in my thoughts and prayers.
Much love and really big hugs,
    Shelly

    • Many thanks for your kind words and thoughts Shelly.
You are lucky that Levi isn’t showing signs of wanting to destroy your Christmas tree or decorations. Dylan, our littlest grandchild, is walking well now but has a thing about climbing onto things, such as the dining table especially if there is food within reach ๐Ÿ™‚ He would eat non stop! He has worked out how to turn the television on and off, knows how to operate the video player and DVD player and is now wondering how the washing machine works! Hope Levi gets past the clingy stage as that is a nightmare!

      Much love
      Lynn xx

      • Hi Lynn

The little butterflys are beautiful and the shrink plastic embellisshment is lovely, Very glimmery and the victorian lady is so beautiful I just love it all Thanks you so much again ๐Ÿ™‚ I will have to watch youtube on using the fantasy film and fibers I’ve never seen them before but I have some ideas floating around for what I can try it out on. The Card is very pretty I have been wanting to try out the fold you used and will have to so it now Very neat in person. Your stamping and coloring are wonderful. I will have to clean off a spot to have the box sit where I can see it when I craft. I am so grateful for your friendship. ๐Ÿ™‚ I am working on my projects but things have been slow as I don’t get much done with all 5 kiddies here under my feet and Mister Levi glued to my hip LOL . We are under another weather advisory for 2 to 4 more inches of snow tonight so hopefully school will be in session tomorrow morning ๐Ÿ™‚ at least it’s not as cold as it has been. I am off to check out the videos and have been over checking out Leslies post of Patti’s cards Very nicely done. Take care and keep warm. You are in my thoughts and prayers .

        Lots of love and hugs,

    • Ooooh, ooooh. I wanna see ๐Ÿ™‚ Flying Pigs?! I gotta see that ๐Ÿ™‚ Would you take a picture? Please, please, pretty please. With something delicious on top? Please?!
      Love you Girls – Leslie

  2. Lynn, I am so sorry to hear about your beloved Cherry. Hearing your Rod’s footsteps approaching her and then having his tender ministrations and coaxing. Then hearing you come and lovingly tend to her. She was able to leave knowing she had her “people” with her and she did not go alone. I’m sorry you had to watch as she left your world forever, but for your sake I’m glad you were there. If you are like me, and I suspect you are, had you come upon her long gone you would have wished to have been there and chastise yourself for not checking on her sooner. Sorry about being so maudlin.

Love the artwork of your Kim. So festive her tree looks and the snowman gives me shivers looking at it ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds as though you and your daughter are having a blast with the Children’s Art Club. The results of it all are stunning! I’m a push over for the art of children ๐Ÿ™‚ Sounds like your local children instinctively know about “The show must go on”. Wish I could have been near to hear their voices sing carols and watch the wiggling about. ๐Ÿ™‚

I so love your photo of the hoar frost. When I used to drive in the winter I saw a lot of that in Nebraska, Ohio, and Pennsylvania. When the sun hits the ice crystals it makes the trees sparkle. Thanks for sharing that photo.

Stay warm, enjoy your Christmas preparations. Love you – Leslie

    • How lovely to hear from you Leslie and you had me in tears – again! – with your comments about Cherry. You are quite right we would have chastised ourselves if we had found her dead. Sadly I couldn’t be with her as she left us as both daughters were here with the grandchildren and so I was elected to stay with the little ones while the necessary work was being carried out by the vet. However Cherry had Rod and both daughters with her – people she had known for 22 years. The grandchildren don’t know what has happened as we kept it from them although that was difficult as there was much sniffing and snuffling and nose blowing going on. I hate to guess how many tissues we all got through.
Good news from sad news – we gave Cherry’s saddle, bridle, head collar and other bits and pieces to the people who run th “Riding for the Disabled”. It seemed fitting somehow and will bring a great deal of pleasure to a lot of people and be a good memorial too.

Ruth and I do enjoy our craft club; Ruth has put in a great deal of work to set it all up and we are proud of her and support her. We hope she does well in her new venture.

      Much love and hugs
      Lynn xx

      • Shelly I am so pleased your parcel has arrived. I do hope the box wasn’t squashed too much and that you can use everything in there.
A friend die cut all the parts for the flying pigs and I assembled them. I think they are cute too. I coloured the shrink plastic embellishment with Sakura gel pens which are glittery pens and shrinking emphasised the glittery ness of it.
It was all fun to put together for a lovely friend. Don’t worry about getting things done, it is difficult when you have little ones around. You will do it when you can do it ๐Ÿ™‚

        Much love and hugs

    Dear Lynn

I’m so sorry for your loss, wish I’d read this before I wrote the comments to you that I did on my blog. Cherry looks wonderful and what you had to do was the greatest act of kindness that you could do for her. It never feels that way at the time though does it.

Have you found this site http://www.rainbowbridge.com/
(press mute before you go there or you will cry buckets). This site has got me through the loss of my feathered friends and the candle ceremony really helps. Just don’t go to the site just before you are going out or have people visiting… it helps but it made me cry lots. The poem is very heartfelt and is just what you want to hear.

Do take care, you are in my thoughts and prayers.

    • Billie thank you so much for your thoughts, prayers and link. Cherry had this wonderful knack of knowing I was somewhere nearby and would try and cut me off from getting back home because she knew I had mints in my pocket ๐Ÿ™‚ It is that sort of thing that we miss, she never missed a trick; like she recognised the farmer’s landrover and would trot off to meet him because he always gave her a handful of horse nuts and had a word with her.

Please don’t feel guilty about mentioning the showjumping; watching those horses jump faultlessly (or not ๐Ÿ™‚ ) is fun and to see a horse in its prime and well looked after is a marvel. You enjoy watching the programme so continue to mention it!
Hope you are not suffering now from your whiplash injury.

      Hugs
      Lynn x
