Quotes & Lyrics #10

Number 10 of the Craft Barn’s quote and lyrics challenge is here and I am tail end Charlie again! The words this fortnight are Passion and/or Music and I had found a quote I liked almost immediately that Craft Barn had posted the words, I’d also found two images and knew which song I wanted to use so why the delay??? I am helping our daughter on her craft stall on Sunday and she suggested I bring a few things along to sell so I’ve been busy stitching so now you know why the delay!

The song that came to mind for the Music prompt is probably one of the easiest however I decided to use part of one of the verses to go with the image I found rather than the title of the song – Thanks for the music by Abba

The lovely image came from a tattoo site but suited the lyrics well I felt.

Passion

When I look at the lovely pieces of art others have created for the Craft Barn challenge I wonder which came first – the image or the quote? For my second piece it was definitely the quote and then I went hunting for an image to go with it as, again, I didn’t have a suitable stamp.

Passionate dancers

Passionate dancers

Not the best piece I have created, still it is my rubbish! I still haven’t got the hang of aligning mats straight nor is cutting straight my forte – hey ho! I wanted to keep this piece as clutter free as possible so that the silhouetted dancers stood out and added a touch of red for passion!

Supplies:

Stencil – Glitzcraft Hibiscus Trellis

Ink – Memento London fog

Is this recycling?

recycling??

recycling??

Have you ever had a series of coincidences that trigger ideas? I had three such coincidences that triggered the above idea. The first was whilst clearing up some branches in the shrubbery a couple of months ago. I had cut down a shrub the previous year and left all the roughly cut branches in a pile and in early March this year decided that the area needed tidying up. Whilst dismantling and carting away the branches I discovered a beautiful mossy nest tucked away amongst the wood, a nest built the previous year. I carefully removed the nest and put it to one side then totally forgot to take it indoors. The following day there was no sign of the nest and we can only think other birds did their own bit of recycling.

A  week later out shopping with my sister in Bridgenorth we popped into a few ‘antique’ shops and I fell in love with some granite eggs. The colours and markings were beautiful so I bought five of them.

Third coincidence was that on Nikki Gillette’s blog I read how she had preserved a nest. I went looking for another abandoned nest around our garden and remembered a blackbird nesting in the shrub by the porch door! It needed some tidying up and I sprayed it liberally inside and out with a spray adhesive. It is stuck fast to a piece of greyboard so that it sits nicely on the table, added the eggs and a few pieces of broken china (also discovered in the garden) and now we have a very natural decoration!

Quotes and Lyrics #9

I’m still in with this challenge, now that is a miracle but now that the longer days are here it is a scramble to do posts! Doesn’t make sense? Well at this time of the year I spend more time out tending our rather large garden and less time on the internet- well that isn’t true I do spend time on the internet but by nigh time my one brain cell doesn’t function well enough to string words together for a post. Okay excuses made reasons given for dilly dallying.

A huge thank you to everyone who left lovely comments last time, I think I managed to get around to most folks blogs and, if I didn’t, many apologies.

The challenge on Craft Barn this fortnight was to use Unique and/or Fame. There are many quotes for Unique and I loved this one found on this site, my favourite site for quotes

Unique - love his hairdo!

Unique – love his hairdo!

Now isn’t that a fabulous hairdo? This fella went very well with the Orson Welles quote.

Fame

Well the only song that came to mind for this word and it had to be David Bowie (again!) Just couldn’t come up with a suitable image to complement the lyrics though; I obviously need more stamps!

Q & L #8

Here I am skimming in by the skin of my teeth! Broadband connection has not been playing well lately so words will need to be had with someone.

Thank you to everyone who commented on Q&L #7, so many lovely comments which were much appreciated. I don’t think I am going to get the chance to comment on many this time.

Okay enough drivel – the words over on the Craft Barn challenge are Hurt and/or Knowledge. For the song lyrics I chose Love hurts by the Everly Brothers although many people sang this including Jim Capaldi, Cher, Nazareth and Roy Orbison, I think we have three versions of this song and like all of them.
