‘X marks the spot’ is the title for my piece for the Craft barn Alpha Challenge where the letter is X. A quite diabolical letter too! So I took the easy route – and made a scrolly, distressed map.dictionary-09-16-x-is-for-sig

Craft Barn Alpha Challenge

These fortnightly challenge deadlines come around far too quickly! I am sure that my fortnights’ are only lasting a few days…

Over on Craft Barn the challenge letter for this fortnight is ‘C’  and I chose Circles.

Dictionary 08-16 C sig

The background to this piece is painted with watercolour paints that have mica in the colours to make them sparkle. Difficult to see in a photo however I have had these paints for years and they have proved to be extremely good value. I think I paid around £2 for them from The Works!!!

The large circles were created with home made ‘stamps’; funky foam die cut with a small circle die.

Materials Used:

Inks – Versafine Onyx Black

Distress Inks Vintage Photo, Spiced Marmalade, Cracked Pistachio, Mermaid Lagoon, Fossilized Amber, Abandoned Coral.

Stencil – First Impressions circles

Stamps – Papermania Chronology; The Artistic Stamper; Marianne Designs

Been a while!

Just don’t know what is going on with me these days but I can’t get a good routine going for blogging! Once upon a time it was easy; exactly the same is happening with my crafting time, I am not spending enough time in my crafting den and it all should be so much easier these days because I have my very own space. No longer do I have to clear the craft things away to get the computer out or put away craft stash and computer because I fancy writing a letter! Is it because life is too easy now? Or something else? Answers on a postcard please 🙂

I have been crafting a little and I have plenty of ideas chasing around in what passes for a brain.

bird cage sig

I created this book fold called a bird cage after watching many videos on Youtube about book folding and cutting. I should have kept more books when we moved! I used Graphic 45 papers on the inside of the covers and added some feathers that one of our one neighbours gave me, her late husband used to make his own fishing flies and these feathers had been languishing in a drawer. The colours in the feathers are gorgeous.

I made two little birds to sit on the top of the bird cage; I used a PaperArtsy stamp for the image and then adhered some feather filaments to create the tails however I made the mistake of leaving the book on a low table and our little pesky dog pinched one of the birds!!bird cage 2

The book was a nature book full of colour photos hence some of the colour on the folded pages, I enhanced the colours with various shades of gilding wax in blue and gold.

There are a few more ideas for folded books on the back burner!

Craft Barn Alpha Challenge

First please accept my apologies for not visiting very many of you and thank you all for leaving me kind comments. Those on Facebook, Pinterest, etc I cannot leave comments as I don’t have accounts with these but please be assured that I do admire your work.

This time the letter for the Craft Barn Alpha Challenge is ‘T’; I had loads of ideas going through my mind but just couldn’t visualise a good image to go with the ideas. During a sort out of wooden and grey board letters and numbers I had a light bulb moment!

Dictionary 06-16 T sig

Once I had got going with the flow then found that I only had the one of the number 1 and had to modify a 7 it all came together quite quickly with the help of some distress inks, embossing powder and a couple of die cuts that were lurking on my table.

Materials used:

Distress inks – Picked Raspberry, Mermaid lagoon, Fossilized Amber

Script Stamp by Artemio

Dee’s Distinctively die cuts – large fern

Emboss Ink pad

Stampendous Detail Black ep;m Frantage aged silver embossing enamel.

Craft Barn Alpha Challenge

Hello everyone, hope you are all enjoying today’s sunshine! I have two for the price of one Craft Barn alpha challenges this time. I missed the deadline for the ‘J’ with a twist of dragonfly so will post that one below this fortnight’s alpha which is a straight forward letter with no twists of anything! The letter is ‘A’ and here is my (very simple) interpretation of it…

Dictionary 05-16 A sig

I do like Acers very much especially in the autumn when they have those beautiful colours if the weather has been cold enough that is.

Materials used:

Wrinkle free method using DI inks – Seedless preserve, Mermaid Lagoon, Fossilized Amber.

Memento Inks – Olive Grove, Cottage Ivy, Morocco

Stamp – Inkylicious Oriental Awakening

Computer generated Dictionary definition.

‘J’ with a dragonfly:

I went very simple for this challenge and printed off an image of a Junk boat and stamped the dragonfly on one of the sails; as this type of boat was used predominantly in Asia and dragonflies are usually associated with Asian culture they seemed to go well together!!

Dictionary 05-16 J with a dragonfly sig

Materials used:

Distress Ink – Vintage Photo

Archival Ink – Jet Black

Dragonfly stamp unknown

Bird stamp Inkylicious Take Flight

Zig ‘Wink of Stella’

Internet for Image.

Thank you for looking and may the sunshine on you over the  Bank Holiday weekend x
